Natural Ayurvedic preparations made with the finest ingredients for the care and beautification of the eyes
Kajal has been used in India for thousands of years to refresh and protect the eyes. Kajal is a combination of beeswax, Ayurvedic ghee (purified butter), coconut oil camphor and black carbon. Sometimes finely powdered pearl ash (Moti Bhasma) is used in place of black carbon, to intensify the effect and prevent blackening around the eyes.
From the time a child is six days old, its mother applies kajal to its eyes and also a small black dot on the forehead to mar the child´s beauty. This 'imperfection' is said to protect from evil. To make traditional Ayurvedic Kajal, a plate made of silver or copper is filled with water and set in a sheltered place over a ghee or castor oil-burning lamp. This process allows the flame to create a coating of carbon on the underside of the plate. The carbon is then carefully removed and mixed with the remaining ingredients specified in the Ayurvedic formulae. The application of Kajal refreshes and cools, in addition to beautification of the eyes. Santulan Kajals are manufactured in strict adherence to original Ayurvedic formulae.
