Syrups Since time immemorial, certain herbal preparations have been mixed or boiled with sugar to form syrups, thus rendering some medicinal herbs more palatable and facilitating their absorbtion in the gastro-intestinal tract. In this way, syrups act as a type of buffer to mask a bitter or unpleasant taste. Ayurvedic syrups use special sugar called “sharkara”, which is said to have medicinal properties.
Asavas Asavas are herbal tonics which are fermented and easily assimilated by the body. Asavas are easily absorbed and quick-acting. In general asavas should not be taken on an empty stomach.
