Incense sticks were developed to make the Dhoopan process easier. The smoke preparation is ground to a paste and rolled on thin bamboo sticks. After drying, these incense sticks can be burned to obtain the desired smoke. Pure charcoal powder may also be rolled on thin bamboo sticks, then dipped into an essential oil solution of a desired fragrance.
