Ayurveda advises burning special herbal preparations for many different purposes: to counteract viruses and other infections, promote circulation, nourish the cells, purify the atmosphere, positive thinking, romantic moods, a meditative environment, protection against negative energies, balancing of Yogic chakras and, ultimately, for success and peace.
Incense sticks were developed to make the Dhoopan process easier. The smoke preparation is ground to a paste and rolled on thin bamboo sticks. After drying, these incense sticks can be burned to obtain the desired smoke. Pure charcoal powder may also be rolled on thin bamboo sticks, then dipped into an essential oil solution of a desired fragrance. Santulan’s Chakra Incense Sticks are produced using various fragrance blends created for specific purposes.
The burning of incense sticks or special environmental smoke mixtures should be performed as a small Yadnya (Fire Ritual). Special blends, created for the incense sticks, work with various deities and energies. They are also very powerful air purifiers and useful in creating specific positive moods. Incense sticks made with strong-smelling synthetic perfumes, however, may pollute the air and aggravate allergies.
